Pioneering UK techno label Network picks up where it left off in 1990 with ‘Bio Rhythm 3’, the 31 years overdue comp of Detroit-inspired UK bleep ’n bass-fuelled grooves

Like the first two ‘Bio Rhythms’ volumes which irrevocably helped introduce the Motor City sound to the UK, this new set is clad in Trevor Jackson’s distinctive minimalist artwork (or some version of it) and the tunes follow suit with a return to turn-of-decade takes on the Detroit house and techno phenomenon, as filtered by the likes of Mark Archer under myriad monikers, as well as label boss Neal Howard, and Discomendments from Network’s native Birmingham.

Discomendments open this nostalgic account with a shimmering edit of label boss Neal Howard’s intersection of US, UK and Italian dream techno styles ‘Indulge’, and also thread a loop of topical inspiration from ‘80s street rave to 2020’s pandemic nod ‘Herd Immunity’. Mark Archer however is responsible for a lion’s share of gear, playing to various shades of the 1990 spectrum with classy nods to the Belleville Three on ‘In The Presence of Beauty’ and the dreamy ‘Bio Rhythms’ as C&M Connection, plus a sleekly rolling take on UK rave as Nexus 21 in ‘Silicon (Don’t Need The Bleeps Mix)’, and Mark Gamble keeps his acid fluffy with ‘Sensual’, beside a fine turn to darker, slower bleeps by Doggy on ‘Neurosilence’.
