Trudge – No More Motivation

Last year Trudge transferred to Lobster Theremin after years spent flitting between labels including Lost Palms and 10 Pills Mate. While that EP, Self Love Club, was full to bursting with pedal-to-the-metal techno shot through with knowing winks towards rave-era hardcore and other vintage ’90s dance music, No More Motivation, his debut album, is an altogether dreamier, deeper and more colourful affair.

Largely melodious and intergalactic in tone, it presents a mixture of ambient techno, spacey drum & bass, psychedelic soundscapes and the kind of shimmering, immersive ambient soundscapes that FAX used to release in the 1990s.

It feels like a long-lost album from that decade if truth be told, but that’s no bad thing; certainly, it’s a balanced, attractive and wonderfully tactile affair that rewards repeat listens.
