Night Slugs’ boss comes correct with his heaviest and most enjoyable haul in years. Aside from his Night Voyages with Tom Trago and countless remixes, original solo material from the producer/DJ/graphic artist is scant, precious stuff.

‘Your Charizmatic Self’ is a considered, concentrated affair, distilling classic and modern dancefloor memes with an accelerationist lean and graphic sense of space and geometry.

Case in point is ‘Melba’s Call’ with Kelela, modelling Prince-style funk chops with Eski stabs and DX7-style flourishes in 3D hyperspace, Kelela suspended at its core like some holographic diva.

The rest of the EP is entirely instrumental and keenly focussed on juicing optimal funk from fewer elements. Five pieces render brassy synth chords, clipped Linn cracks and darting jazz-funk bass as a geometry of negative space.
